Maersk and Europacific announce more dynamic BAF levels.
We are happy to advise that we are implementing changes to the Maersk Line BAF (Bunker Adjustment Factor) formula, making it a more dynamic, fair and transparent reflection of the current bunker prices.
Revision of calculation and notification period
Currently, we make new BAF levels available on our maerskline.com online rate look up 30 days prior effective date. As of 1 October 2009, we will reduce this period to 15 days.
We will continue to communicate new BAF levels via the advisory “Surcharges”. If you want to learn about revised BAF levels before receiving advisory, you will be able to check the news section on baf.maerskline.com where we will in the future also publish these once they have been fixed.
Taiwan and the US trade including Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands (US) and Guam are excluded from this more dynamic pricing and will maintain the current notification periods.
Monthly validity of BAF levels on most trades
For the sake of improved transparency, we will also revise the quarterly calculation and validity period of the BAF levels to a monthly period on most trades. This will enable us to better reflect the recent bunker market developments.
Effective 1 November 2009, the following trades will change accordingly:
• Transatlantic
• North America to/from Mediterranean, Africa, Middle East, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh
• North America to/from West Coast South America, Central America and Caribbean
• Transpacific all directions
• Intra Asia (all directions)
All trades to and from Oceania will for the time being remain on a quarterly basis due to specific market conditions.
